Date Cake Recipe


Fresh Dates
In Romanian we call them curmale. Dates are very healthy fruits by nature. They are rich in iron, calcium, phosphorus, sodium, potassium, vitamins A and C and niacin, vitamins B1, B2 and B3. These B-vitamins have multiple functions in the body, for example they change food into energy. That's why Muslims break the fast with a glass of milk r water and dates, after a whole day of no water and no food in Ramadan.  

Cake Filling:

-1 cup dates, chopped
-1 cup water
-1 tablespoon sugar
-1 tablespoon butter
-2 teaspoons cocoa
-1/4 teaspoon vanilla essence

Base:

-125 g butter
-1/2 cup sugar
-1 egg
-1 3/4 cups flour
-1 teaspoon baking powder

Filling

Put dates in a saucepan. Add water sugar, butter and cocoa. Cook gently over a law heat until a paste-like consistency. Add vanilla and cool.

Base: 

Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg and beat well. Sift flour and baking powder together. Mix into creamed mixture. Divide mixture in half. Press out one piece to fit a 20 cm square tin. Spread with date mixture. On a piece of waxed paper pat or roll out remaining dough to a 20 cm square. Place on top of date filling. Bake at 180°C for 30 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into fingers. Makes 15

Curmalele sunt fructe foarte sanatoase de la natura. Sunt foarte bogate in fier, calciu, fosfor, sodium, potasiu, vitaminele A si C si acid nicotinic, vitaminele B1, B2 si B3. Aceste vitamine B au functii multiple in organism, de exemplu ele convertesc mancarea in energie. De aceea si musulmanii intrerup postul cu un pahar de lapte sau apa si curmale, dupa o zi intreaga cand nu beau nimic si nu mananca nimic in Ramadan.


Umplutura:
-1 cana de curmale, maruntite
-1 cana de apa
-1 lingura zahar
-1 lingura unt
-2 lingurite cacao
-1/4 lingurita esenta de vanilie


Blat:
-125 g unt
-1/2 cana zahar
-1 ou
-1 3/4 cani faina
-1 lingurita praf de copt

Umplutura:
Puneti curmalele intr-o tigaie. Adaugati zaharul, untul si cacao. Tineti pe foc mic pana cand devine o pasta consistent. Adaugati vanilia si raciti.

Blatul:
Frecati untul si zaharul pana faceti o crema pufoasa. Adaugati oul si bateti bine. Cerneti faina si praful de copt impreuna. Adaugati in amestecul cremos. Impartiti compozitia in doua. Puneti o foaie intr-o tava de 20 cm patrati, apoi puneti amestecul de curmale. Apoi puneti cealalta foaie din coca ramasa si taiati bucatele. Se fac 15 bucati.
Sau pur si simplu faci prajiturile punand curmalele ca in imaginea atasata.

Coaceti la 180°C sau pana se rumenesc usor.
